Thank you to the Culpeper Police Department for presenting, "Hidden in Plain Sight," for our LMS and CHS parents and guardians last evening. Attendees were treated to a wonderful meal before the program. Officers recreated the bedroom of a teenager and helped parents to identify signs of risky behavior that may go unnoticed to the untrained eye. Parents and guardians were able to go on stage and examine the room close up. The topics of alcohol, marijuana, prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, illicit drugs, vaping, mental disorders, sexual behavior, were covered in the program. Approximately 40 parent and guardians joined us last evening, and we thank them for attending!

Mr. Buchanan's marketing classes are competing in a virtual stock market game with teams from across the state. Each team is comprised of 3-4 students and given $100,000 to buy stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. The prices are aligned with current prices at the NYSE that are affected by the economy and business climate. Currently, in 1st place in the VCU Region out of 55 teams are E. Mathis, C. Burke, D. Stone and R. Allard. They are also ranked 2nd in the state out of 436 teams. Another team at CHS led by M. Lee, J. Morris, L. White and T. Redd is 2nd in the VCU region and 3rd in the state. The competition ends in December.

Ms. Leonard's Community Vocational transition class at Central High School (CHS) travels to the Bliss Consignment store in Victoria four days per week, 2 ½ hours each day. They are receiving valuable work-based learning skills and experiences. It also connects them with local businesses and creates professional relationships that can help them in the future. The students complete many tasks, but most include: setting up store displays, organizing shelves, stock shelves and racks, general cleaning, processing customer sales, and receiving merchandise drop-offs. While at CHS, her class also makes wreaths and custom jewelry as a school-based enterprise. Please email Ms. Leonard at kimberly.leonard@k12lcps.org for more information.
