Mrs. Hilliard's culinary arts students were asked to take home a box of ingredients and come up with an original creation.
The Powermatic Sander Drum was recently purchased for the carpentry and cabinet-making classes at CHS. It is used to sand tabletops up to 44" after they have been glued. It will remove plane ripples from wide boards and leaves a smooth surface so it will be a better-finished product. The sander will be used when making cabinets, tables or glue-up wide boards for a project.
Dear Parent/Guardian, Central High School has an exciting opportunity to offer computer science again next year. We are investing in our students by continuing our partnership with Microsoft Philanthropies TEALS to offer Programming I and Programming II. As a TEALS partner school, Central High School needs technical volunteers to team-teach this course with our teacher. Central High School will hold the course first period, allowing volunteers to go to work after volunteering. If you work in tech and would be interested in making a difference in our students’ future success, please contact Karen McGrath, CTE Coordinator via email karen.mcgrath@k12lcps.org or apply at Microsoft.com/TEALS. Please forward this to technical industry professionals in your network. You can read more about the TEALS Program on their website at Microsoft.com/TEALS. Thank you, Patricia Clary, Principal
Central Garden & Pet/Pennington Seed is currently looking for qualified Central High School Seniors who are interested in a paid work-based learning opportunity to include online learning, job shadowing, and hands-on learning. Mrs. McGrath's Intro. to Marketing classes are taking a micro-credential course through Major Clarity.
High School students are enjoying Culinary Arts! They are learning about nutrition, food safety and meal preparation. Mrs. Hilliard, Culinary instructor, and students are pictured baking cookies.
Career and technical education, or CTE, is education that directly prepares students for high-wage, high-demand careers. CTE covers many different fields, including health care, information technology, advanced manufacturing, hospitality and management and many more. The state of Virginia has 16 Career Pathways for our students. Most of the classes also offer an industry certification that will serve as a graduation requirement and also help prepare students for post-secondary education and workplace skills. Students may inquire with any CTE teacher or the Guidance Dept. for more information on the CTE classes available.
