🚍 Lunenburg County Public Schools Transportation Update 🚍

Parents and Guardians,

Due to a bus driver shortage caused by a flu outbreak and other staffing challenges, some student transportation routes may be impacted over the coming weeks.

Temporary changes may include:

🚍Students riding a different bus

🚍Buses doubling routes

🚍Longer ride times

🚍Earlier or later morning pick-ups

🚍Delayed afternoon drop-offs

We will notify families of any changes as soon as possible; however, in emergency situations, advance notice may not be possible.

If you know your child will need to ride a different bus or you plan to provide transportation, your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your patience and support as we work to keep our students safe.

Sincerely,
Lunenburg County Public Schools Transportation Department

🎉 WE’RE CELEBRATING CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL! 🎉

Central High School has been named Lunenburg County’s FIRST National Blue Ribbon School and is one of only seven schools in Virginia nominated for the 2025 National Blue Ribbon Schools Program by the Virginia Board of Education! 🏆

This prestigious honor recognizes schools making outstanding progress in closing achievement gaps and ensuring student success. Central High School earned this distinction in the Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing category based on strong academic performance during the 2023–2024 school year and sustained success throughout 2024–2025. The recognition reflects significant academic growth, equity, and a commitment to excellence for all students.

📅 The Virginia Board of Education officially adopted a Resolution of Recognition on January 8, 2026, in Richmond, honoring Central High School alongside a select group of schools across the Commonwealth.

💬 “Lunenburg County Public Schools is extremely proud of Central High School for being named a 2025 National Blue Ribbon School for Closing Achievement Gaps,” said Dr. Sharon H. Stanislas, Superintendent of Lunenburg County Public Schools. “This prestigious recognition reflects the unwavering commitment of the entire Central High School community, including its administrative team, educators, staff, students, families, and community partners, to ensuring every student has access to high-quality learning experiences and the support necessary to succeed.”

💬 Dr. Erica B. Hazelwood, Principal of Central High School, added: “Being named one of only seven schools in the Commonwealth to receive this honor is a testament to the hard work, perseverance, and a firm refusal to accept mediocrity in any capacity. This award belongs to our entire school community, our teachers, staff, students, families, and partners, who share a belief that excellence is not optional and educational equity is not negotiable. It is the result of shared ownership, relentless care, and a refusal to accept ‘good enough’ for any child.”

👏 Congratulations to our students, staff, families, and community—this achievement belongs to YOU!

🏫Take Your Legislator to School Day 2025
Lunenburg County Public Schools

Each November, the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) encourages school divisions across the Commonwealth to participate in Take Your Legislator to School Month, an important initiative designed to strengthen relationships between public education and the legislators who represent our communities in the Virginia General Assembly. 🤝📘

On Wednesday, November 12, Lunenburg County Public Schools (LCPS) proudly welcomed several distinguished guests from state and local government for Take Your Legislator to School Day:

✨ Delegate Tommy Wright
✨ Kade Gravitt, Legislative Assistant to Delegate Wright
✨ Alvester Edmonds, Chairman, Board of Supervisors
✨ Edward Pennington, Board of Supervisors
✨ Greg Currin, Board of Supervisors
✨ Mike Hankins, Board of Supervisors
✨ Tracy Gee, County Administrator
✨ Melanie Currin, Chairman, School Board
✨ Ruby Ingram, School Board Member

Visitors toured the facilities 🏫🔍 and discussed completed improvements and important infrastructure needs with Mr. Paul Caley, LCPS Director of Operations & Facilities, who led the tour alongside Dr. Sharon Stanislas, Division Superintendent. As they explored our schools, they met staff 👋, saw students engaged in learning 🎒✨, and experienced firsthand the incredible work happening every day.

We are grateful for the opportunity to share the successes, goals, and needs of LCPS with our local and state leaders. Strengthening these partnerships is essential to supporting high-quality public education for all students. 📚💙

📚 Happy American Education Week!

This week, we join schools and communities across the nation in celebrating American Education Week, a tradition that began more than a century ago when the National Education Association and the American Legion came together after World War I to call for stronger public support for education. 🇺🇸 Their efforts led to the first observance in 1921, and today the week is co-sponsored by national education organizations dedicated to supporting students, staff, and schools. 🎓✨

Throughout the year, we’re proud to celebrate important recognition days for many of our team members—principals, administrative assistants, teachers, and more. ✏️ But we also know that some of our employees don’t have a dedicated day of appreciation, even though their work is just as essential to the success of our schools. 💼❤️

So during American Education Week, LCPS is shining a special spotlight on these staff members who work hard every day to support our students, ensuring that they receive the best education possible and have their needs met on every level. 🌟📘 From directors to coordinators to our superintendent and so many others, we are grateful for everything they do to lift up our students and strengthen our school community. 🙌💙

Thank you for helping us fulfill the vision that inspired American Education Week over 100 years ago. 💙📘
