Thank You Lunenburg County School Board

Lunenburg County Public Schools (LCPS) will join 132 other school divisions throughout the state to celebrate School Board Appreciation Month in February. Almost 850 elected and appointed school board members throughout Virginia will be recognized by schools and communities for their service and dedication to public education. The theme of this yearโ€™s celebration, โ€œExcellence Through Equity,โ€ reflects the top priority of local school board members as they advocate for public education with local, state, and federal leaders on behalf of all students.

โ€œThe foundation of school leadership is ensuring equal learning opportunities for all students,โ€ said Charles Berkley, Superintendent. โ€œWeโ€™re proud of our division, and School Board Appreciation Month is the time to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of our elected trustees.โ€

In Lunenburg County Public Schools, school board members must develop policies and make tough decisions on complex educational and social issues impacting the entire community. They bear responsibility for an annual budget of $18 million, 1,630 students, 295 employees, and 4 buildings. โ€œSchool board members statewide make decisions that affect 1.5 million Virginia children and more than $3 billion,โ€ notes Berkley, โ€œThey preserve the core of our democracy—public education.โ€

School Board Members will be honored at the School Board Meeting at Kenbridge Elementary School on Monday, February 10, 2020.  More information is posted on the LCPS website at www.lunenburgcountyschools.org. The men and women serving on the Lunenburg County School Board are Barry Carnes, Chairman; Kathy Coffee, Vice Chairman; Amy McClure, Doug Aubel, Beverly Hawthorne, Melanie Currin, Ruby Ingram.  Thank you all for all that you do for LCPS Students and Staff!
