PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE FOR THE FAF$A NEXT EVENT---NOW WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 31, 2024
Attention Seniors, Parents, and Guardians,
FAFSA Next is a component of Level Up Virginia, which is a state initiative designed to provide students with assistance and resources from counselors, advisors, and volunteers on how to prepare, apply, finance, and decide on their postsecondary pathways.
There has been a date change, and NOW we will hold our FAF$A Next Event on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 31, 2024, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Central High School. This event will allow parents and students to receive assistance in applying for the FAFSA from trained specialists.
You will need to provide your 2022 income and tax information on the 2024-25 FAFSA. If your financial situation has changed significantly since 2022, still submit with 2022 information, and contact the college financial aid office to discuss options.
Virginia students who are nonimmigrants, undocumented, have DACA status, or are otherwise ineligible to file the FAFSA and would like to be considered for state financial aid and some institutional financial aid programs should complete the Virginia Alternative State Aid (VASA) Application at www.VASAapp.org . Our volunteers will be able to assist you at our event also.
For more information, questions, or to sign up, email LaTonya Stith, latonya.stith@k12lcps.org, or call CHS Guidance Department. We look forward to working with you for the future.

CHS NOVEMBER STUDENT OF THE MONTH- Lacey Joyner
Central High School is proud to announce our November Student of the Month, Lacey Joyner. Lacey is a 10th grader at CHS, the daughter of Kevin and April Joyner of Victoria, Virginia. Her teachers describe her as a well-behaved, respectful, and hard-working student. She is kind to her peers and sets a wonderful example for all CHS students. Lacey is an honor roll student who strives for greatness in all her classes, especially Science, her favorite subject.
In addition, Lacey is involved in our Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club, Kindness Matters, and Student Council Association. She is a Charger Cheerleader for football and basketball and participates in competition cheerleading. In her free time, Lacey enjoys reading and baking. After graduating high school, Lacey would like to attend Virginia Tech to further her education.

Students at CHS used styrofoam cups to create candy skulls, calaveras de dulce,
as they learned about The Day of The Dead, Dia De Los Muertos, celebrated today 11/2!
They also made traditional altars or ofrendas to honor loved ones and pets that have died.

Congratulations to the CHS teacher assistant interns. These students completed an application and interview process. They received letters of reference from their teachers. The students will assist teachers with organizing, filing, cutting out things, helping set up science labs, stapling packets, and anything else that will save teachers time during planning periods.

#ChargersToTheRescue --A Partnership with Lunenburg Animal Control
💜💛Over the last few weeks, CHS students have worked to create flyers to promote the adoption day. Also, students made dog treats to be given to each family who adopted a dog. Channel 6 News Reporter, Caroline Coleburn featured a story on the Service Learning project with the Animal Shelter which aired on Thursday and helped promote the Adoption/Donation event at the animal shelter this past Saturday.
💜💛The event was a success! Students volunteered at the shelter Saturday morning. They walked dogs and decorated Kennel #7 which is sponsored by the students in an effort to raise money for the 8th Annual Ruff-In-It Day on Thanksgiving Day. There were 2 dogs and 2 cats adopted as a result of the Adoption/Donation Day. Several monetary donations were collected to go to the spay and neuter program.
💜💛Lucky is a dog that has been at the shelter for almost 7 months. He was adopted by a loving family. On Tuesday, the Small Animal Care students at CHS bathed and groomed him as part of their school-based enterprise-Central Spa and Grooming. The students who sponsored him and worked to get him adopted were present to help pamper Lucky.

ATTENTION CHS SENIORS--On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, CHS will host an FSA ID creation night during the Parent Teacher Conference 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.
The FSA ID is required for both parents and students in order to apply for the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This event is for seniors looking to further their education once they graduate from CHS to attend college or technical school.
The FAFSA is what qualifies students for federal aid, scholarships, grants, and more! Both parents and students that attend will need an email and their social security numbers.
