March 2023 CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT OF THE MONTH
STUDENT NAME: Devion Zaire Carter
Central High School is proud to announce our March Student of the Month, Devion Carter. Devion is a 10th Grader at CHS. He is the son of Ms. Sonya Carter of Kenbridge, Virginia. His teachers describe him as a polite, intelligent, and considerate young man. He loves animals and is very kind to people. I have had the pleasure of teaching him this semester, and his laughter and great attitude are contagious! A model Charger- he is 100% HEART.
In addition, Devion attends Gilfield Baptist Church. He enjoys cooking and growing items in the garden. His specialty is baking delicious sweets for others to enjoy. He has a pet chicken and enjoys taking care of his animal. His favorite subject in school is Science.

The Teachers for Tomorrow students have been completing their weekly fieldwork at KES and VES. Each high school student is assigned to a teacher who mentors them throughout the semester. Their fieldwork began in January and will end at the end of April.
After this semester, our students are eligible to take Teachers for Tomorrow II which is through SVCC. They will receive dual enrollment and high school credit and will continue to complete work at the elementary schools.

Mr. Stephen Day, Director of Economic Education at Virginia Commonwealth University visited Mr. Buchanan’s marketing classes today to present awards to the fall Stock Market game state winners. Mr. Day also spent time showing students how to research stocks. The spring competition kicked off on February 3rd.
Mr. Day talked about entrepreneurship and walked students through a guided activity. He showed them how to register their new business in Virginia. He discussed the importance of young entrepreneurship in local communities. Another awards ceremony will take place later in the spring at the Richmond Federal Reserve Bank.

Congratulations to Todd Williams of Kenbridge who won the 50” smart TV from the George Sunbury Scholarship fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets in support of this worthwhile cause.
