Business Law Class Visits Lunenburg Court House

Mrs. Scott's Business Law class visited Lunenburg Court House on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. The Honorable Gordon Erby, Lunenburg Clerk of Court, gave the students a tour of his office, and the courthouse campus including each of the courtrooms, judge’s chambers, dispatchers’ office, and even the temporary holding cells in the Sheriff’s office.  Erby shared the history of our courthouse and county’s government with our students.  During the tour, Erby discussed the clerk’s administrative duties such as the issuance of marriage licenses, concealed handgun permits, and recorder of deeds as well as the criminal court records side of his job. Students were even given the opportunity to sit on the judge’s bench and deliver a verdict and sentencing in mock trial scenarios.  We would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to the Honorable Gordon Erby, Officer Penland, Officer Abernathy, Attorney Bob Hawthorne, and others who welcomed our students into their offices and shared a wealth of information with them during our visit.
