Mrs. Michelle Howell

A few words from Mrs. Howell...

I am so excited to serve the faculty, staff, students, and parents as the Principal of Central High School. I have been an educator for over thirteen years and most recently served as an Assistant Principal at Park View High School in Mecklenburg County. Before transitioning into administration, I served twelve years as a special education and elementary school teacher. During my tenure with Mecklenburg County Public Schools, I was honored to be selected as the Division Teacher of the Year and went on to be named the 2020 Region 8 Virginia Teacher of the Year.

Being the daughter of retired public school teachers, I have been around education my entire life and knew from an early age that I was called to be a teacher and help others. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, and a Master’s Degree from Indiana University. In addition, I completed my Administration and Supervision Endorsement through Longwood University.

My educational experiences across several states have allowed me the opportunity to collaborate with diverse people to meet the common goal of increasing student achievement and well-being. My educational philosophy is based on the uncompromising belief that all students can learn when given a positive learning environment, that schools need strong and knowledgeable leadership, and that schools also need a committed and focused academic team and an encouraging community.

With the belief that great schools result from great teachers, one of my primary objectives will be to ensure that every student receives high-quality instruction from every teacher at Central High School. I envision Central High School as a place that will provide a healthy and safe environment that will prepare all students academically, socially, and emotionally for the bright future that awaits them. Central High School should be a place where everyone feels welcome, and each student is happy to attend every day.

I look forward to a wonderful year at Central High School and working alongside the faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members of Lunenburg County.
