2021 Charger Football
Monday, August 2nd—First day of practice. The J.V. team will practice also. The Varsity will practice from 9-11:30 and from 12:30 to 1:30. We will take a break between the two sessions.
Monday, August 9th—We will begin practice at 5:00 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. August 12th is our first scrimmage vs. Park View. The scrimmage will take place at Central starting at 6 p.m.
Monday, August 16th is the first day of school. Our practice will begin immediately after school and end around 6:00 p.m.
Once school starts, we will practice everyday from 3:40-6:00. We may end a little early on some days, but rain or shine we are practicing. One of our biggest rules is “no practice no play.” If your son does not practice he will not play. If there is a situation where the player and/ or parent calls then we will excuse that absence, but he still may not play even if it is excused. We have to get everyone on the same page to participate in games, and we practice about seven hours a week. Failure to show up for a practice for any reason cuts into the player’s time to be prepared. As a staff, we are going to put the players who are prepared and ready for that week’s game.
Please have rides on-time after practice. We will very rarely practice after the end time. Coaches will not leave until all players have left the fieldhouse area.
All coaches take a concussion course mandated by the VHSL. As an extra precaution, the parent and son must read and sign the concussion form acknowledging that the coaching staff has informed players and parents about the signs and symptoms of concussion.
We give players multiple water breaks during practice. With the way things are going, it would be a good idea for each player to bring a water jug or bottle. We make sure that during the time your son is with us, he will be properly hydrated. Please encourage your son to drink before and after practice. We also follow VHSL guidelines to protect against excessive heat during our practice time. We will be doing some things inside when the heat gets over a certain temperature.
Our first scrimmage game will be Thursday, August 12th at 6 p.m. at home. We are going to try and have a J.V. scrimmage as well during this time.
We will have another scrimmage on Friday August 20th @Windsor High School. Time TBD
